The Best Toothache Medicine

Let me tell you a simple truth right at the outset…. Prevention is the Best Toothache Medicine

They say prevention is always better than cure. And I guess this holds true for any ailment, as the pain that comes along with any sickness will prove to be more of a hassle.  Toothache pain can be really excruciating and will most probably last for days. Oftentimes, the cause of toothache is a dental cavity. A dental cavity is caused by tooth decay, which plaque and bacteria build up in your teeth and gum area may have caused.

Though a number of over-the counter medications are now available to help relieve toothache pain fast, a few tips on avoiding this predicament altogether:

  • Maintain good oral hygiene: Remember what our mothers told us? Always brush your teeth, every after meal, most especially before bedtime. Brushing your teeth and gums not only helps in removing food particles stuck between teeth and gums, but also reduces the plaque and bacteria build up. Reducing the bacteria growth will enable us to maintain healthy and strong teeth and gums and prevent the susceptibility to infection. Use a toothpaste with a good amount of fluoride for better effect.
  • Don’t forget to floss: What brushing could not remove, flossing finishes the job. This would also help keep bad breath away!
  • Maintain Proper Diet: Loan up on your vegetables to stack up on the essential vitamins and minerals. Did you know that gum disease is also caused by deficiency in Vitamin C? Scurvy is an advanced gum disease that is characterized by bone degeneration, gum swelling and bleeding. This is caused by severe deficiency in Vitamin C. Weak and porous gums that are primary reasons for infections and tooth decay can be avoided if we have enough Vitamin C and manganese. Our bodies could not function to its optimum level if we practice ingesting an improper diet.
  • Hold off those sweets: Too much candy and sweet food can create a breeding ground for bacteria. The sugary nature of these foods increases the acidity of your mouth and in turn promotes bacteria build up and weakens your teeth.  Additionally, a sweet diet contains a lot of carbohydrates that not only makes us bigger, but also allows rapid growth of bacteria.
  • A glass of milk keeps the dentist away. Drinking your glass of milk will give you your recommended calcium intake and make your teeth strong and healthy. Maintaining strong teeth helps you avoid tooth decay, tooth cracks and sore gums.
  • Drink more water. Avoid taking in artificial juices and colas as they can be harmful to your teeth. High in pH level, they are the most likely culprits of staining and eroding your teeth. Making our teeth porous, drinking these kind of drinks directly contribute to tooth decay.
  • Visit the dentist. Say hello to your dentist at least once a year for that much needed cleaning. Don’t be afraid to have those set of pearly whites pampered! The dentist can clean up the remaining plaque and bacteria that brushing and flossing cannot do alone.

Avoiding toothache pain is enough motivation to keep in mind these steps. Letting in these everyday habits would form a part of our daily routine and will not be so much of a chore. A portion of your time to take care of your teeth and over all health will help you avoid days of excruciating pain; And a lot of fuller life to look forward to and enjoy. – Remember: Prevention is by far the best toothache medicine.
